How does the EMS work?
The EMS unit has a series of wire connections with two or four bonded electrodes attached to the end of each channel. The unit contracts and relaxes rhythmically through your instructions through the unit, thereby transmitting soft electrical pulses. When muscles contract due to EMS stimulation, the chemical reactions that occur within the muscles are similar to those associated with voluntary contraction during "normal exercise." These chemical reactions make use of glycogen, fat and other nutrients stored in muscles. These series of muscle contractions will enable the individual to tone, firm, strengthen and combat relaxation and improve contours.
What's ten?
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is designed to relieve symptoms and treat chronic intractable pain. TENS is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free pain management method. "Transcutaneous" means across the skin. TENS unit devices can be used to relieve acute or chronic pain symptoms through several adjustable modes and levels of current intensity, which allows users to choose a comfortable level of relief easily. It also relieves pain by sending tiny electrical pulses to the nerve fibers below through electrodes placed near the pain area or pressure point.
How does TENS work?
The TENS theory suggests that there are two mechanisms for pain relief. When TENS provides a steady, mild current, some people experience relief. Electricity from the electrodes stimulates nerves in the affected area and may prevent pain signals from traveling to the brain. If the pain signal is not transmitted to the brain, the pain will not be felt. This theory is often referred to as the "gate control" theory.
Another theory is that electrical stimulation of nerves may contribute to the body's own natural pain control mechanisms. Low-frequency currents may cause the body to release pain-killing substances called "endorphins." Regardless of the pain theory used, TENS has proven to be useful in the field of pain management.
